Grace was born in Busan, South Korea and emigrated to Brooklyn, New York at age five where she grew up watching Korean dramas, sit-coms and variety shows that her mother rented as VHS tapes from local Korean video stores. Korean television is an integral part of her life, and it shaped not only her comedic sensibilities but also the questions she asks as a theorist. Read her book K-Drama School.
Grace is an internationally-touring stand-up comedian, clown, writer, and filmmaker. She’s the author of the novel Deli Ideology and translator of Sweet Potato. She has a doctorate degree in Cinema and Media Studies from UCLA. Her research focus is Korean television, film, gender/queerness, and clown theory. Grace is also a former Fulbright scholar. She is currently a professor of Korean media studies.
